Field Application Scientist (EMEA)

Job Summary:

The primary role of the Field Application Scientist is to work with the Regional Account Managers to drive revenue growth in their assigned territories. This position focuses on working with NanoString’s research customers in a defined area of EMEA, as well as covering support across EMEA when required. Defined geography will be determined by location and experience of successful candidate. 

Essential Functions:

  • Work with the Regional Account Manager to identify sales opportunities in institutions that do not have an installed nCounter system (such as identifying PI’s with particular project needs where the nCounter would be a valuable tool).
  • Give technical, sales presentations and run workshops to assist in developing opportunities, generating excitement for the nCounter system in a target accounts, and assisting customers in formulating proof of principle projects to support instrument purchases and scientific publications.
  • Train new customers to accelerate the ramp of projects at new install sites.
  • Work closely with assigned Regional Account Manager partners to identify and implement tactics to expand consumables usage and projects at existing accounts, including, but not limited to, demonstrations and seminars facilitating the introduction of new applications and products.
  • Facilitate customer interactions with in-house technical support, bioinformatics, service and engineering staff. 
  • Where ever possible, transfer post-sales support to in-house resources to maximize the time available for pre-sales programs.


  • Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related science and may have an advanced degree, certification or additional professional training.  Typically requires six years of relevant experience. PhD preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Gene Expression assay development and analysis, miRNA, Copy Number Variation assays and related applications.
  • Strong working knowledge of the sales process and commercial terminology.
  • Requires excellent communication skills, Verbal and written.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% dependent upon territory and opportunity requirements.
