Business Analyst I/II

Job Summary:

NanoString continues to build out a dynamic finance team and we are looking for a highly motivated individual to perform analysis and organize data that will help to drive the business growth. The business analyst will report to the Director, FP&A and partner with other team members to provide high quality financial information and support maintenance of our Business Intelligence tool (BIRST) and financial planning tool (Adaptive Insights), and other related portals.  The business analyst will also work closely with our commercial team throughout the company to provide training and assist with adoption and optimization of these reporting tools. This is a hands-on position, focused on maintaining data integrity between various systems, participating in and driving processes improvements, servicing internal customers, and supporting ad hoc reporting requests based on business requirements.  A successful candidate will be a self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity; will have a passion for data and diving deep (detail oriented); strong appreciation for consistency in reporting; dedication to providing insightful analysis in a fast-paced environment; and will work well with cross-functional teams.  

Essential Duties:

  • Interpreting data, analyzing results using statistical techniques and providing ongoing reports
  • Developing and implementing databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality
  • Acquiring data from primary or secondary data sources and maintaining databases/data analysis systems
  • Identifying, analyzing, and interpreting trends or patterns in complex data sets
  • Filter and “clean” data by reviewing system reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems.
  • Maintaining data integrity throughout different dimensions and helping to drive continuity across different reporting systems
  • Locating and defining new process improvement opportunities
  • Creating and maintaining weekly/monthly dashboards and reports to provide timely information, including assistance of the monthly business review meetings and analyze company performance through different dimensions
  • Building and maintaining quarterly reports/dashboards working collaboratively with operational managers. Provide necessary training to different functional teams
  • Continue to support BIRST and other data warehouse enhancements
  • Performing other financial projects, as necessary, to support business objectives
  • Ad Hoc analysis & reporting

Requirements:

  • Proven working experience as a data analyst or business data analyst
  • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques
  • Strong knowledge of, and experience with reporting packages (Business Objects, etc.), databases (SQL, etc.), programming (XML, Javascript, or ETL frameworks)
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics (Navision) ERP and other BI, or reporting/analysis tools is a plus
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS, etc.)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings
  • BS in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management or Statistics, Finance or equivalent field
  • Detail oriented, with strong analytical and financial modeling skills
  • A service-focused, customer orientation toward colleagues throughout the company
  • Ability to work and contribute both independently and as part of cross-functional teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work effectively with others in fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Public company experience preferred
  • International experience with a high growth, highly complex company preferred
  • Knowledge of BI solutions, CRM and data warehouses preferred
  • Support of various sales and marketing dashboards preferred
  • Use of Tableau analytics and dashboards preferred
